Little Stint
Little Stint, Calidris minuta are tiny wading birds, weighing in on average around 30 g. They breed in thae artic tundra and we get to see them in the UK on their passage to Africa where they spend the winter. More often than not they are found feeding with Dunlin and that was the case here too. I saw about 4 Little Stint amongst a similar number of Dunlin.
The Little Stint diet consists of insects and small crustaceans and molluscs and can be found feeding along edges of lakes and reservoirs where there is some exposed mud, they are also fond of brackish pools and estuaries.
